Slaughterhouse 5 Essay (weaker) Heart of Darkness Essay (improvement)
Reflection
The Slaughterhouse 5 Essay was an essay that Zana and the rest of her grade had to do based on the book "Slaughterhouse 5" by Kurt Vonnegut. Their task was to write about something that influenced the main character Billy and how it affected him. Zana wrote about how time change affected him because he suffered from PTSD. Unfortunately, her grades on this essay wasn't frankly strong and this would be one of her weaker essays. Although, she did improve in writing essays for example the "Heart of Darkness Essay" which is below this.
The tenth graders had to write a essay that had to do with the book "Heart of Darkness" by Joseph Conrad. Zana wrote about the book based on characterization. She wrote about how people see people based on characterization. Zana chose this as one of her star pieces of work because she did really well on it. All of her grades were at the integrating range and it's definitely her most developed essay. This essay shows Zana's improvements on her writing skills. Before, you could tell she struggled with the "Slaughterhouse 5" essay and she felt like this essay was a perfect example of her improvement.
Work #2
Plaster Sculpture
Reflection
For the first part of the second semester in sophomore year, the 10th grade had an assignment which was to create a 3 dimensional non-objective plaster sculpture. The image above shows Zana's plaster sculpture. First they had mix the plaster with water, then create their shape. After they were done with creating their shape, they had to sand it with sanding paper and place it on a base. The purpose of the plaster sculpture was to see how well students can create something without having to show any relationship to a person, place, or thing in the natural world. Zana chose this piece that she made in her media class because she feels like it's one of her strongest pieces and she ended up getting a integrating grade in the end.
Work #3
Reflection
Every advisory in the middle of sophomore year had to read one book as an advisory and do an assignment on it. The assignment was the find a song that they felt related to the book and write the lyrics down. Then they had to write about one page how the song relates to the book and what specific scene it related to. Zana's advisory had to read the book "The Fault In Our Stars" by John Green. And then Zana chose the song "I Won't Give Up" by Jason Mraaz and wrote about how it related to the book. She had a lot of fun reading the book because now it's her all time favorite book, and in the end she got an integrating grade therefore it was one of the pieces of work that she felt really proud about.
